Invitation to wine tasting with fungus-resistant new varieties

The Institute for Grapevine Breeding Geilweilerhof is pleased to invite you again this year to a wine tasting with wines from fungus-resistant grape varieties (PIWIs). Various PIWI grape varieties as well as new red and white breeding lines can be tasted in comparison to standard varieties.

The rehearsal will take place on Wednesday and Thursday 12 and 13 August 2026
between 10.00 and 16.00
in the historic old quarter of the Institute for Grapevine Breeding at Geilweilerhof.

You will also have the opportunity to taste a variety of rosé wines made from our red varieties and be impressed by the differences. We will also be happy to give you an insight into other ongoing research projects at Geilweilerhof.

Following last year’s great success, we are once again offering Practitioners according to Registration a guided Vineyard tour with wine tasting . Here, you will have the opportunity to get to know our four varieties – Calardis Blanc, Calardis Musqué, Calardis Soleil and Calardis Royal – as well as the latest breeding lines, Gf.2011-003-0021 (red) and Gf.2011-007-0128 (white), both as vines and as wines, and to receive specific, first-hand information from the breeder.

The field visit will take place as part of a workshop organised by the EU project GrapeBreed4IPM. The workshop begins on Wednesday, 12 August 2026 at 10.00 am and, in addition to the public wine tasting and the vineyard tour, it also includes the keynote talk
