All news about PIWI International you should know about and Online General Assembly

|
in this period there are numerous events that are extremely important for us PIWI International winegrowers, members and PIWI enthusiasts and that we would like to draw your attention to. Not all of them are large trade fairs; There are also the small, fine tastings that our regional associations organize in the regions and bring PIWI wines closer to the consumers.

At the end of February, the board of PIWI International held its first board meeting at the Valtice Wine Centre in South Moravia. Perfectly organized by our Czech board members Frantisek Madl and Jiri Sedlo, intensive work was carried out over two days and cooperation with the National Wine Center was agreed. Preparations are in full swing for us online general meeting on the 18th of March, at which PIWI International will be founded as an umbrella organization after a long discussion and the new statutes will be adopted. There is also news regarding the PIWI International Wine Challenge 2024! After two difficult years of transition, it will be presented in a new guise and organized in the Czech Republic for the first time. Why we are meeting in northern Germany in the summer also has a story that we want to tell you right now.

PIWI International Wine Challenge NEW
After two years of interim organization of the PIWI International Wine Challenge, this year we have found a solution that guarantees professional organization in cooperation with the national wine center in Valtice. This gives our members a great opportunity to have their wines tasted in an extremely modern environment with colleagues from all over Europe and beyond (according to the OIV 100-point scheme). The good thing is that the income remains with the association after deduction of the costs and we can also keep the contribution costs relatively low. The winning wines will be presented at a separate event. Date: June 6, 2024 Detailed information will follow immediately after the general meeting.

PIWI International board retreat
From 22 - 25 February, a PIWI board retreat took place for the first time at the National Wine Center in Valtice, where we were very generously received by our Czech board members and representatives of the wine industry. After two days of intensive discussions on various topics (umbrella organization, structure, budget, delegates' meeting, brand book, etc.), we were also able to visit Frantisek Madl and Milos Michlovsky's estates. They generously shared their challenges and experiences with us and, with a PIWI share of over 5%, the Czech Republic also plays a kind of pioneering role in the PIWI movement. We were also able to taste the sensory benefits of Michlovsky's new varieties - some of which certainly have the potential to be cultivated and marketed as successful PIWI wines in other countries.
